2017 CEV EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP – MEN
After suffering an injury in a friendly against Slovenia last week, Serbia’s Marko Ivovic will sit out of the CEV European Championships.
Serbian head coach, Nikola Grbic is still hopeful that Ivovic will be able to help out the Serbian squad come the championships, “The only unpredictable thing was the injury of Marko Ivovic. It happens in sport and we can’t do anything about that. I honestly hope that he will be ready to help us. It is difficult to say whether he will play from the beginning or not. We have to wait for the last medical examination. We have done everything to prepare as best as possible for this championship.”
Ivovic was the top scorer for Serbia at the 2017 FIVB World League that took place this summer. At the competition, Ivovic put down 108 points in the preliminary rounds on 89 kills, eight blocks and 11 aces. His strong output was enough to help the Serbians finish third in the opening rounds of play.
Upon reaching the finals, Serbia was unable to keep up their tough play, going 0-2 to start, being eliminated from the tournament in fifth place. Ivovic was not a strong presence in the finals for Serbia, only posting 12 points on 11 kills and one block.
Serbia is in Pool A of the European Championships and will face off against Estonia, Finland and Poland.
