Former Marshall middle blocker/outside hitter Madison Hill has transferred out of the program and will be attending UT Arlington for 2018. A junior-to-be in the fall, Hill will have two years left of play and is likely to be immediately eligible since she is changing conferences.

A 6’1″ native of Rockwall, Texas, Hill attended Heritage Christian Academy before coming to Marshall in 2016. Right away as a true freshman she saw playing time in all 29 matches, with 26 starts. She totaled per set numbers of 2.68 points, 2.22 kills and 0.77 blocks along with a single-season school record .418 hitting percentage. Those numbers not only put her on the Conference USA All-Freshman team, but also the All-Conference USA Second team.

That was a springboard for her sophomore season in 2017, when she also played as an outside hitter and notched 328 kills (3.09 per set) on a .224 hitting percentage, 69 blocks (0.65 per set), 54 digs (0.51 per set) and 10 aces (0.09 per set). That led to a spot on the All-Conference USA First team. Her departure not only leaves the void of a top player for the Herd, but also with three middle blockers for a team that went 11-19 (6-8 C-USA) last year.

The addition gives the Mavericks a third player who can play middle blocker and a fifth who can play outside hitter for their current 2018 roster – plus any other summer and fall additions. Hill also joins another transfer in outside hitter Petra Manderson from Hillsborough Community College.

UT Arlington is cming off of a 13-17 season in which they went 7-9 as members of the Sun Belt Conference.
