Minchanka Nets 5th Domestic Title, Shifts Attention To CEV Cup Finals

Minchanka Minsk only needed three games in its best of 5 series against Pribuzhie Brest in order to claim its 5th Belorussian women’s national title. Just as it did in the previous two games, Minchanka closed out the third game in three straight sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-15).

The team will now shift its attention to the To CEV Cup Finals, where it is battling out against Turkish powerhouse Eczacibasi for international glory. The Turkish team won their first match-up 3-1. They will now face each other again in Istambul on 04/10. Although it is understandable that the Turkish team is the runaway title favorite, with the price-tag in Tijana Boskovic‘s contract probably being enough to pay for Minchanka’s whole roster, the Belorussian team is to be congratulated for advancing so far into the tournament.

Here is how Minchanka’s star player Katsiaryna Sakolchyk reacted to the team’s special moment:

“In order to achieve good results in sports, you need to work on yourself every day! The team should consist of people sharing the same mind-set, including the coaching staff! If you share the same goal, work on yourself and believe in yourself and your team, you can achieve great results. I think that we improved in many ways throughout the season and the results we have achieved in the national league and CEV Cup reflect this positive trend. Therefore, our results do not surprise me much. At the beginning of the season, I probably would not have thought we could have gone this far – but we have built a strong team throughout the season and this has boosted our self-confidence. We are a good team – and therefore the results do not surprise me much.”
