MIVA Tournament Semifinals Set With Ohio State & Lewis Hosting

After the first round of the MIVA conference tournament, the semifinal field has been set, with matches to be played on April 19.

Semifinal match-ups

Advancing to the semifinals are #1 seed Ohio State, after they took down Quincy in an easy three set sweep. In the match, the Buckeyes were able to outscore the Hawks 75-49. MIVA Player of the Year, Nicolas Szerszen led the squad with 13 kills on a .685 hitting percentage.

Ohio State will take on Ball State, who took down Loyola in a four set match in the quarterfinals. The Cardinals freshmen duo of Blake Reardon and Matt Szews, the MIVA Co-Freshman of the Year, each put down 11 kills in the match.

Lewis, the #2 seed in the tournament, squeaked by Lindenwood in a five set battle in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. MIVA Co-Freshman of the year, Ryan Coenen, led the Flyers with 20 kills on the match with a .304 hitting percentage.

Rounding out the semifinals is Grand Canyon, who took down McKendree for their first ever home playoff win. Matthew Kinnebrew led the Lopes with 15 kills in the match. The Lopes out-served McKendree with 11-4 in aces and out-blocked them with 14-8 in blocks.

The semifinal matches will be host by the higher-seeded teams, being Ohio State and Lewis. The championship match will be on April 22.
