2017 FIVB World Tour – Nantong

Nantong is ready to host their first ever FIVB World Tour event, the second on the Beach Volleyball Silk Tour. The Silk Tour began with a tournament just days ago in Nanjing, where Betsi Flint and Kelly Larsen of the USA took gold.

Since the event is so much smaller and just a women’s tournament, there will not be a qualification tournament like there was in The Hague last weekend. The main draw of the tournament will begin on Jun 23. The quarterfinals will be played on June 24, while the semifinals and finals will take place on June 25.

There will be a total of eight Chinese teams that will compete on their home soil, with Japan bringing in the next most with four. Most other countries involved in the tournament are bringing in one to two pairs.

The only American squad that will compete in the tournament are Irene Pollock and Amanda Dowdy. This will be their second tournament together, after finishing in ninth place in Nanjing just days ago. Earlier this year, Pollock took 25th place at the five-star opening tournament of the FIVB season in Fort Lauderdale with Lane Carico. Dowdy’s first tournament of the season was at the two-star event in Sydney, where her and partner Whitney Pavlik placed ninth place.
