Notre Dame libero Ryann DeJarld joined elite company on Sunday as one of just three active Division I players with 2,000 digs to her credit.
DeJarld notched 20 saves in the four-set loss to Michigan on Sunday to boost her career tally to 2,003. She joins two Missouri Valley players in the elite group: Illinois State’s Courtney Pence (2,257) and Missouri State’s Emily Butters (2,063).
The senior already owned the title as the top digger in Fighting Irish history, besting Meg Henican, who posted 1,791 from 2002 to 2005, last year.
DeJarld entered 2018 with 1,808 digs, a 5.06 dig per set average. The Chicago native had posted 87 double-digit dig efforts, including a program record 42 matches with 20 or more saves.
Sunday’s 20-dig effort gave her the program’s record for matches with 10 or more digs with 97, one more than Henican’s 96 from 2002 to 2005.
In 2018, DeJarld has managed 195 digs, including 20 or more in six matches.
