After shining in Bielsko-Biala at the start of her career, Aleksandra Jagielo displayed her volleyball talent in several other teams. But when was time to retire, she decided to do so in the club where her heart is, signing with Biela for one last run, helping it reach a respectable 7th place finish in Poland`s league. Now away from the courts, she was invited to join the club as a sports director, to which she accepted:
“I am very happy that my life will still have a lot to do with volleyball. I have never seen myself as a coach, because it is connected with continuous trips, which I wanted to avoid. I know that the sporting director function proposed to me at the club will be a huge challenge for me and at least at the beginning a difficult task, but I will try not to disappoint the people who trusted me.”
Andrzej Pyć, the team`s president, was likewise very pleased with continuing to have Jagielo in his staff:
“I am very pleased that such an outstanding figure decided to stay in our club. I am also convinced that thanks to her intelligence and huge experience, Aleksander Jagieło will perform in the new role just as well as on the court. For us it is very important that such players as Alexander Jagielo or Mariola Wojtowicz, which a year ago were entrusted with managing duties, decide to stay at our club and share with us their valuable experience.”
Jagielo will be able to offer a lot of experience to her peers. After all, she is one of the Poland`s most successful players of all time, having won two European Championships with the Polish national team, in addition to eight domestic Polish titles.
