The 2017 Pepperdine women’s volleyball schedule was released by Head Coach Scott Wong on Tuesday morning with some exciting matches on the docket this season.

“The 2017 schedule will once again be a year of tough competition,” said Wong.  “The West Coast Conference is continuously getting tougher and continues to stand out as a top national volleyball conference. The non-conference portion of the schedule also features a few perennial national volleyball programs in Washington, Missouri, and Missouri St. This will be an exciting year of volleyball for the Waves.”

Of the 31 matches set, 15 will be in Malibu including the Pepperdine Asics Classic from September 8-12.  This is the first campaign since 2012 that the Waves will not open the season at home with the Pepperdine Asics Classic.  All home matches will be available to watch online for free as WaveCasts will air on theW.tv.

The Waves have matches against four teams that made it to the 2016 NCAA tournament, two of which are West Coast Conference opponents BYU and San Diego.

Pepperdine will begin the year in San Jose, Calif. for the San Jose Invitational, taking on Utah Valley, the host San Jose State, and Fresno State. The San Jose Invitational is the first of four tournaments that Waves will compete in to begin the year.

The upcoming season marks the 20th year Pepperdine will host the Asics Classic. In the previous 19 tournaments, the Waves have amassed 43 wins, with only 13 losses, including last season’s 2-1 campaign.  Visiting teams include Missouri State, Washington, and Wyoming.

Along with the Asics Classic, Pepperdine will co-host the Pepperdine-CSUN Challenge with Cal State Northridge. Northeastern and Weber State will join the Waves and Matadors from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.

The final tournament the team will partake in before WCC play begins is the Nevada Wolf Pack Tournament in Reno, Nev. The Waves join Missouri and Sacramento State in the tournament, hosted by the University of Nevada.

WCC action begins with two road matches against Wells Fargo PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount on Sept. 23 and BYU on Sept. 26. The first conference match in Firestone Fieldhouse will be on Sept. 28, as the Waves take on Pacific. Other home matches include Sept. 30 (Saint Mary’s), Oct. 12 (San Francisco), Oct 14. (Santa Clara), Oct. 19 (BYU), Oct 21 (San Diego), Nov. 2 (Portland), Nov. 4(Gonzaga), and Nov 18 (Loyola Marymount).

Two WCC programs made the 2016 NCAA Volleyball Championship tournament. San Diego was defeated in the first round, falling to Baylor in five sets. BYU made it all the way to the third round, sweeping both Princeton and UNLV before dropping to Texas in five sets.
