Both the women’s and men’s volleyball head coaches at the University of the East (UE) stepped down from their posts, according to Spin.ph.

Francis Vicente, the women’s head coach, and also the current head coach of the Philippines women’s national team, had a pretty abysmal 2-42 record during his three years with the program. He started this season 0-5. Here is how UE’s athletic director, Rod Roque, reacted to the coach’s resignation:

“Coach Francis has left us citing personal reasons, so we did not bother asking him why he wanted to leave, out of respect. We respect him and what he wants. We already have coaches in mind, but we want to deal with this change in perfect timing, as to ensure commitment from the new coach. I’ll try to do my best for the team as an interim coach until then, but I ask our fans not to expect miracles, as miracles don’t happen overnight.”

Meanwhile, the men’s coach, Sammy Acaylar, resigned last Friday stating that he couldn’t commit full time to the school’s volleyball program because of his position as athletic director at University of Perpetual Help, also citing that such a work dynamic was very unfair for UE’s goals in the tournament.

Francis Vicente was also recently fired from his position at Philippine Superliga’s Generika-Ayala.
