Volleyball in the Philippines may be heading back to a more unified front as the three main bodies of volleyball have sat down to discuss unifying.
The Premier Volleyball League, Philippine Super Liga and Philippine Volleyball Federation representatives met last Wednesday in Manila to discuss the possibility of settling past disputes and unifying all stakeholders to save Philippine’s volleyball. The talks included topics such as grassroots development, the formation of the national team and settling past leadership disputes.
The Philippine Volleyball Federation is the old governing body of the sport until the Premier Volleyball League and the Philippine Super Liga joined forces to get rid of the PVF and join with the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. Though the PVL and PSL teamed up, it was a short union between the two as they ran into problems of their own that included scheduling, the formation of the national team and securing International Transfer Certificates or license for imports suiting up.
Now, all as seeking unification to help build up volleyball in the Philippines.
Peter Cayco, the vice president of the LVPI said that they were unaware of the unification talks, to which they were not invited to. The PVL representative, Tony Liao, said that there will be another meeting on January 15 to which the LVPI will be invited.
