AZS Częstochowa has announced in its official Instagram page the signing of Polish volleyball legend Dawid Murek to a contract. This will be David’s 18th professional go-around. He is transferring out of Szczecin, to which he left a farewell message on the team’s official website:
“I will definitely remember these two years very well, because I got the chance to play volleyball again. I thank the club’s authorities, above all Kuba Markiewicz, just for the fact that I could continue my career at this level. I regret a little that this is how it ended and I how left Szczecin. However, I decided that I should finally settle somewhere, in Częstochowa, where we have a home. I am tired of moving, of traveling around the world.”
A powerful attacker with 277 caps for Poland’s national team, David, at 6’6″, did what many outside hitters are doing, and transitioned to libero two seasons ago in order to extend his career. AZS Częstochowa won Poland’s second tier league last season. However, it missed on promotion to PlusLiga after failing to win a play-in tournament against recently relegated Łuczniczka Bydgoszcz.
