Polish Star Dawid Konarski Suffers Injury Hours Before European Champs

Polsat journalist Jerzy Mielewski is reporting that Polish star Dawid Konarski ended Poland’s final pre-tournament training session on Wednesday at the European Championships early, with ice on his ankle.

The Ankara star, who was the MVP of the 2017 Polish Cup, was unable to finish Poland’s practice. Mielewski said that the injury did “not look too bad,” but that “we’ll see.” About an hour later he said that the performance of Konarski was not affected.

The team was practicing in the PGE Narowdowy Arena in Warsaw that will host the opening match of the tournament on Thursday. The soccer stadium holds 62,100, and also hosted the opening match of the 2014 World Championships – which drew a record-setting 61,500 fans, the most ever at an FIVB volleyball match. Poland plays Serbia in that opening match, and another huge crowd is expected.

Konarski is a 27-year old opposite who has played for Poland’s National Team since 2012. He was the 5th-leading scorer in Group 1 of the 2017 World League with 129 points in 9 matches played (14.3/game). Poland finished 8th in that tournament.
