Reigning Olympic Champions Cerutti/Schmidt Advance To Quarterfinals

2017 FIVB WORLD TOUR SEASON OPENER

In the Fort Lauderdale Major, the Round of 16 men’s tournament has ended, with eight squads advancing to the quarterfinals, that are set to start this evening.

Fijalek/Bryl (POL) def. Herrera/Gavira (ESP)

  • Score: 2-1, (25-23, 20-22, 15-12)

The Polish squad was up 20-16 in the first set, but the Spaniards fought back, tying the set up at 20 all before going up 21-20, but Fijalek/Bryl came back to win the set 25-23. The Spaniards kept a steady lead in the second set, winning 22-20. In the third and deciding set, Fijalek/Bryl were leading 11-12, before going on a 4-1 run to finish the set and match.

Cerutti/Schmidt (BRA) def. Kantor/Losiak (POL)

  • Score: 2-1, (16-21, 21-18, 15-13)

The reining Olympic champions kept their chances alive with a three set victory over Kantor/Losiak. After going down quick 0-1, the Brazilians fought back to take the next two sets, 21-18 and 15-13 in the third.
