Good news for Brazilian Men’s National Volleyball Team fans: Off the courts since last November with an Achilles tendon rupture, the team’s starting outside hitter Ricardo Lucarelli is back to training full time without any kind of restrictions. Lucarelli, who missed most of the Superliga season, including its playoffs, now has his eyes set on Brazil’s national team while it competes in the NVL and readies itself for the FIVB World Championship.

Miguel Ambrosio’s, Taubaté physiotherapist, was responsible for implementing a very conservative rehab procedure in Lucarelli’s recovery. Here is his official statement on the player’s clearance:

“His rehabilitation is basically over. He is now cleared to practice without any kind of restriction. Taubaté will start its preseason on July 2, but he has worked with me throughout the team’s time off to get back into perfect playing shape. If in August he is called up for the national team, he’ll be able to join it without a problem.”

Lucarelli, who led Brazil to a gold medal in last year’s Grand Champions Cup while being awarded the competition’s MVP prize, is Brazil’s biggest hope if it plans to win the upcoming World Championship. While the team still waits for the naturalized Yoandy Leal to make his debut, Lucarelli remains as the team’s most complete offensive player.
