Senior Roni Jones-Perry was tabbed AVCA Division I Women’s Player of the Week after leading 3rd-ranked BYU to a 3-0 mark last week. She is the seventh player in Cougar women’s volleyball history to be recognized as player of the week and the first since Nov. 17, 2015, when Alexa Gray earned the honor.

The 6-0 outside hitter was instrumental in BYU’s upset of top-ranked Stanford, registering an impactful 20 kills and hitting .341 in the 5-set battle. She added 10 digs for a double-double, while also tallying 5 blocks and 2 aces to her line against the Cardinal.
The West Jordan, Utah, native guided the Cougars to a pair of sweeps against West Virginia and Wichita State as well.

Against the Mountaineers, Jones-Perry hit an impressive .417 and led the way with 13 kills. Against the Shockers, who were receiving votes in last week’s AVCA Poll, she posted an astounding .682 attack percentage to go with 16 kills and 8 digs.
As if her weekend wasn’t impressive enough, Jones-Perry surpassed the 1,000-career kills mark too. She ranks 16th in BYU women’s volleyball history with 1,027 career kills through 59 matches played.

For her efforts, Jones-Perry was named MVP of the BYU Nike Invitational and was also recognized as West Coast Conference Player of the Week. It is her second time earning WCC Player of the Week honors (Sept. 4, 2017).

Following its undefeated weekend and team tournament title, BYU advanced to No. 1 nationally according to VolleyMob and No. 3 according to the AVCA. The Cougars received 7 first place votes in AVCA voting.
