2018 NORCECA U-21 Championships

With the first two days of action at the NORCECA U-21 Championships being decided by a series of 3-0 decisions, the third day will decide who wins first place in both pools, giving qualification directly to the semifinals.

Pool A

Cuba and the Dominican Republic both enter today’s match with a perfect 2-0 record and a maximum 10 points since both of their wins have come by sweeps. Cuba has a better point ratio at this time, but that will not come into play. At the end of the day, one of them will be at 2-1 and the other at 3-0. The winner of the match will claim Pool A and advance directly to the semifinals.  The loser will have to play in the quarterfinals against the 3rd place team from Pool B.

Guatemala and Barbados are playing for survival at this point. They are both at 0-2, and neither team has won a set yet. The winner of this match will finish 3rd and will play in the quarterfinals against the loser of the USA-Canada match.

Pool B

Rivals and neighbors, the United States and Canada, will face off against each other on Wednesday for 1st place in Pool B. They both come in at 2-0, and all of their wins have come in sweeps. While they both have a maximum 10 points, Canada has an advantage in points ratio. That will not come into play after today as one of them will be undefeated, and one will have a loss. The losing team will play the winner of the Guatemala-Barbados match.

Nicaragua and Haiti for playing for the right to continue in the tournament. Both of them have lost a pair of 0-3 decisions in the first two days of the tournament. The winner of this match will place 3rd and will have the loser of the match between Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
