Slovenian setter Dejan Vinčič has transferred to Halkbank, a Turkish top-division club based out of Ankara. He comes from the club Yenisey Krasnoyarsk in Russia, where he’d played since this summer after playing last season in France.
The club currently ranks 8th in the Turkish League table with a 4-7 record. After Vincic joined the side, however, they went on to a Turkish Cup final loss to Fenerbahce, who won 3-1 in the final (25-23, 25-20, 15-25, 25-21) last week.
The team is also currently playing in the CEV European Men’s Champions League, with their 3rd game in Group E planned for a home game on Wednesday, January 18th. The team’s next league game, expected to be his league debut, will be played on January 21st against 10th-place Seramiksan.
The 30-year old Vincic stands 2 meters tall (6’7″) and is listed as a spike height of 354cm (139 inches) and a block height of 338cm (133 inches). This makes him a huge threat at setter, as he’s got big reach and ability to both hit and block out of hte middle in addition to his more expected setting.
Vincic was a part of the Slovenian team that won gold in the 2015 European League and also conquered Group 3 of last year’s FIVB World League. At the European League, he was named the Best Setter and MVP.
