Bulgarian Smilen Mlyakov knows how much the volleyball athlete’s life can be a financial roller coaster. Because of this, a few years ago he made the decision to invest in something to act as a plan B for him and his family. He decided that it had to be something that he liked and understood about, as to improve the chances of a successful investment. What better choice than a gym, then? That is exactly what he did. With the help of his wife Eva Georgieva, he nows runs his own gym besides being Levski Sofia’s captain player (Sportal.bg):
“4-5 years ago, when I had to do two surgeries, I did not know if I would go on to have mone to feed myself. I spent a lot of time in the gym and learned about how the business went. Working out are some people’s way of life, and I saw that there was a growing need in the industry for motivated people with big investment plans.
I feel comfortable in both the gym and on the court because I’ve created something that feels like home. I’ve spent 26 years in my life in a gym for a few hours a day, and I do it well. Also, almost the whole volleyball elite comes to train with us. It’s hard to have your own business, But it has made it definitely easier for me to be a volleyball player.”
It looks like everything has paid off for Mlyakov and his wife. While he has been playing steadily even at 37 years of age, she has gone on to become a professional bodybuilder.
