13-year old Luka Milinkovic, the son of famous Argentine volleyball player Marcos Milinkovic, died earlier this month. Milinkovic, who lived in Serbia and was considered a top young prospect for the Serbian team, died while vacationing on the Croatian island of Brac.

Luka’s body was found floating in the sea. Official reports say that he wwent to play basketball on the first day of the family’s vacation and then rented a kayak. While his friends returned to play more basketball, he stayed to dive on the coast and was found at the bottom of the sea. Emergency attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

“I’m deeply saddened by this tragedy,” said Serbian volleyball legend Ivan Miljkovic, who is currently serving as first vice-president of the federation. “I have never played with Lucy’s father Marcos on the same team, but we were rivals in Italy for several seasons.

“I’m sorry about everything that happened to him.

“The great tragedy that hit the Milinkovics is an irrecoverable loss for their family, but also for the volleyball family of Serbia. Luka….as far as I know, had huge potential and the volleyball genes would surely have lead him to a national team jersey.”
