Current Superliga Champions Uberlandia/Dentil Praia Clube has just announced in its official Instagram page that it has been invited by the FIVB to participate in the 2018 FIVB Club WCH, to be held in China in December. With that, we now know four of the eight teams who will be participating in the competition, the others being continental champions Minas from Brazil, VakifBank from Turkey, and Supreme Chonburi from Thailand.
The invitation from the FIVB makes sense, as Uberlândia is one of the better off financial teams in the world, sporting in its rosters the likes of Fabiana Claudino, Fernanda Garay, Carli Lloyd, and Nicole Fawcett, just to name a few. As a good news to Brazilians fans, they will probably get to see one of the country’s bitterest rivalries brew in the championship, as current South American Champions Minas, led by national teamers Natália Zilio and Gabriela Guimarães will have something to say of the fact that rivals Uberlândia got the easy way in into the tournament.
Here is how Uberlândia‘s general manager André Lelis reacted to the invitation: “We’ve had had invitations before, but only decided to accept it, this being the best time to do so, as we are the current Superliga Champions. Our team now has a solid roster and has been greatly helped by our sponsors”
“Closer to our dream! Today the team has confirmed its participation in the 2018 FIVB Club WCH. Our team will do its best to try to win this title and reach the top of the planet!”
