SWISS SEMIFINAL MATCH

Joana Heidrich and Nadine Zumkehr advance to the finals after defeating rival Swiss team Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Verge-Depre in a three set match (14-21, 21-15, 15-10).

Forrer/Verge-Depre jumped to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set, leaving Heidrich/Zumkehr trailing the entire set by three or more points. Forrer/Verge-Depre kept strong, not breaking their focus, ending on a 4-0 run, leaving the score 21-14 in an easy first set.

Heidrich/Zumkehr returned the favor, in a slightly closer set, leading by two the majority of the set. Forrer/Verge-Depre continued to fight back, getting as close as 10-11, but Heidrich/Zumkehr forged ahead, taking the set 21-15.

Entering the third and deciding set, the first three points were traded back and forth, until Heidrich/Zumkehr went on a 3-0 run to lead 6-3. Forrer/Verge-Depre couldn’t recover, trailing the rest of the set, losing 15-10.

Heidrich/Zumkehr await reigning Olympic champions Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst (Germany) in the finals at 11:15am Sunday morning.

It doesn’t end for Forrer/Verge-Depre, as they will take on Brazilians Larissa Maestrini and Talita Antunes for third place at 1:45pm Saturday afternoon.
