Quarterfinal Action Concluded For Women’s Tournament

2016 FIVB BEACH VOLLEYBALL WORLD TOUR FINALS

Brazilian pair Larissa Maestrini and Talita Antunes take down Argentinian duo Ana Gallay and Georgina Klug 2-0 (21-17, 21-17)

The first set was a back and forth showdown, with six ties early on in the set, at 7-7 Argentina began to pull away taking a 12-9 lead. The Brazilian pair fought back to tie the set up again at 14-14. Off two Talita kills and a Larissa ace, it put the pair up 16-14. From there the Brazilians took off, finishing the set 21-17.

The second set went similarly, with a close battle and multiple ties. At 11-11, Brazil took charge, going on a 6-2 run making it a 17-13 game. Argentina couldn’t hang and dropped the match 21-17.

 

Swiss duo Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Verge-Depre defeat German’s Julia Sude and Chantal Laboureur 2-0 (21-16, 21-18)

The first set started back to forth leading to a 4-4 tie, the Swiss pair went on a 4-0 run to lead 8-4. The German’s couldn’t catch back up trailing by three the remainder of the set dropping the set 21-16.

A 4-0 run started off the second set for the Swiss pair, but the German’s rallied back on a 4-1 run of their own to make the score 5-4. The score remained tight until the set got tied up at 15 all. The Swiss duo took the lead and kept it the remainder of the match, winning 21-18.

 

Reigning Olympic champions Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst took down undefeated Americans Kerri Walsh-Jennings and April Ross 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-11)

The Olympic champion duo Ludwig/Walkenhorst, took down undefeated American squad Walsh-Jennings/Ross in a three set battle. It was a close first set, tied at 7-7, but the German pair took charge and took a 17-10 lead over the Americans. At set point, the Americans went on a 5-0 run to make it a closer 18-20 match. Walkenhorst put an end to the set off an attack, ending at 21-18.

The second set was an close scoring set, with a tie at 10 all. The Americans tried to pull away taking a small 12-10 lead. From there, the Americans remained on top by two points, before taking the set 21-19.

The German’s took charge in the third set, taking at 7-2 lead early. The American’s couldn’t handle the lead, dropping the match 11-15.

 

Switzerland pair Nadine Zumkehr and Joana Heidrich defeated Australians Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden 2-0 (21-19, 21-11)

Switzerland took a quick 6-1 lead over the Australians in the first set. They kept up the lead, but the Australians fought back, tying the match at 15 all. It was a back and forth battle from there, until the Swiss took the set 21-19.

The second set was a blow out set, with the Swiss jumping to a commanding 13-4 lead. The Australians couldn’t hang and dropped the set and match 21-11.

 

SEMI-FINAL MATCH UPS

 

A Swiss match-up between Forrer/Verge-Depre and Heidrich/Zumkehr at 9 am on Court 1.

 

German Olympic champions will face Brazilian pair Larissa/Talita on Court 2 on 10am.
