For the second straight night, top-seeded Stanford women’s volleyball swept its way to victory in the NCAA Tournament, this time advancing to the Sweet 16 with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-17 victory over Loyola Marymount
Pac-12 Champion Stanford was awarded the No. 1-overall seed with three other league squads receiving a top-16 seeding, giving them the right to host the first and second rounds. The league earned eight berths for the fifth time in six years.
Stanford junior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer was voted the Pac-12 Volleyball Player of the Year for the second-straight year, while teammates Jenna Gray and Morgan Hentz were tabbed as Setter and Libero of the Year and USC’s Raquel Lazaro was selected as Freshman of the Year.
Washington’s Samantha Drechsel and Avie Niece were tabbed as Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week respecitvely, while Stanford’s Holly Campbell was honored as the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Week.
A 3-1 win over Oregon on Thursday clinched Stanford at least a share of the Cardinal’s 18th Pac-12 title
Stanford increased its lead atop the Pac-12 standings with a road sweep of USC on Friday night behind an efficient .373 hitting effort.
2nd-ranked Stanford extended its win streak to 14 in a row with a victory in straight sets against 16th-ranked Washington inside Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal, which has won 27 consecutive home matches, is perfect in Pac-12 play at 8-0.
Arizona’s Kendra Dahlke was tabbed as Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Stanford’s Morgan Hentz and Holly Campbell were named defensive player and freshman of the week respectively.
Victories by Arizona and Arizona State highlighted Pac-12 action Friday night, as the Wildcats outlasted 14th-ranked Oregon in 5 and the Sun Devils swept RV Oregon State for its 2nd conference win since 2016.
