In its first-ever NCAA Division-I Tournament match, the FGCU volleyball team (27-6) knocked off 13th-seeded UCF 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 14-25, 15-7 in the first round on Thursday.
The league title is the Knights’ ninth in program history and earns the team its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.
UCF moved to 11-0, increasing its lead atop the conference standings as Cincinnati fell to Tulane. The Knights captured their 17th straight win and stayed perfect at home (12-0) with a four-set victory over SMU.
Louisville started the Bubly Invitational with an sweep of UCF, but it was the nightcap between No. 7 USC and No. 3 Florida that lived up to the hype with the Trojans pulling up the road upset in four sets.
