Czech club Kralova Pole Brno has announced in its official website the signing of Taylor Fricano. The 23-year-old 6’4″ former Missouri State, UNC, and University of Wisconsin alumni will head for her first professional season after a five-year college career in both indoor and beach volleyball. Here are her first words as a member of her new team:
“I look forward to my new home. It will also be my first visit to Europe – and I was delighted to be more than happy when Králova Pole signed me. I always wanted to play volleyball professionally. At first, I thought I become a beach pro in the US, but the hardwood ended up winning. I have been playing college volleyball for five years now, as unfortunately the USA doesn’t have a professional league yet. The Brno club offered me an interesting contract and when I started looking for more information about the Czech Republic, I did not hesitate. I think this country has a very interesting culture, history and last but not least, food. Many of my friends praised Prague and also Czech beer. I heard that Brno it is a university town full of young people, so there is plenty to do. Like everyone else, I would like to join the national team, but it is also my dream to play not only for America but also for Italy. My grandfather was Italian, so I can have dual citizenship.”
Fricano spent two seasons at Wisconsin and three at North Carolina, transferring to Missouri State from UNC for her final semester of eligibility to play beach volleyball. At Kralovo, she will find a club that finished its last regular season in third place with a 13-5 record, before falling to eventual league champions Prostejov in the semifinals in three games. Fricano will join fellow American Bailey Nichol in the new club.
