Taylor, Sneed Earn Atlantic 10 Offensive, Defensive Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis sophomore Maya Taylor was named Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while VCU junior Jasmin Sneed earned for Defensive Player of the Week honors. George Mason freshman Peyton Ehmke and Saint Louis freshman Cayce Chaykowsky shared the league’s Co-Rookie of the Week award. Announced Monday, the awards are for matches played from Sept. 24-30.

Taylor hit .400 or higher in each of SLU’s two matches, combining for a .413 mark with 33 kills and only seven errors in 63 attempts. She averaged 4.71 kills per set, and her 22 kills in a win over Davidson are her career high and SLU’s season high. The outside hitter from Idaho Falls, Idaho, matched the team’s season high with a career-high four service aces in the Davidson match, and averaged 0.86 SA per set for the weekend. She also averaged 2.00 digs per set.

A middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, Sneed averaged 1.86 blocks per set in victories over Saint Louis and Dayton. She recorded six blocks in the win over Saint Louis and then seven in the win at Dayton. She also hit .324 while averaging 2.57 kills.

In Mason’s sole match of the weekend, Ehmke collected a career-high 10 blocks against George Washington. In the second set, Ehmke tallied five of her 10 blocks, and she averaged 2.5 blocks per set. Ehmke ranks fourth in the A-10 with 1.08 blocks per set in overall matches and sits first in blocks per set (2.08) in the A-10 in conference matches.

Chaykowski averaged 6.71 digs per set in two matches, tallying a career-high and SLU season-high 30 digs in the four-set win over Davidson.  The libero from Henderson, Ky., had 17 digs versus first-place VCU.
