Just like we predicted in our preview, Game 1 in Anaheim was a very one sided affair in favor of Team USA, as it handed Brazil a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 29-27). Indeed, a very nice start for USA’s preparation to FIVB Grand Champions Cup, and a perfect welcome back to its BIG 4 of Jordan LarsonRachael Adams, Foluke Akinradewo, and Kim Hill, as they haven’t had been in the red and white uniform since Rio’s Olympic Game. The next game between both teams will be this Tuesday, as they are schedule for a rematch.

The U.S. used a 6-3 run to break a 15-all tie in the opening set and capture the win at 25-21 as Larson and Drews each compiled five points on a combined 8-of-13 hitting. Drews added eight points in the second set as Team USA rolled to an easy 25-14 victory. In the third set, the Americans held off three Brazil set points before gaining the upperhand and winning 29-27 on its second match-point opportunity.

Libero Megan Courtney handled 11 receptions with a 45 positive percent. Larson added a 79 positive reception percent on 14 chances.

Both teams had eight blocks and three aces, but the U.S. held Brazil to a a .288 hitting efficiency. The Americans had a 64 positive reception percent for the match, while Brazil was credited with a 42 positive reception percent.

As if to commemorate the friendly status of the tournament, and maybe because the game just went by too fast for José Roberto Guimarães‘s liking, after the game ended, both teams played an extra set with different roster formations, in which Brazil won 25-21.
