After suffering a gruesome injury in a Champions League game last season, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul’s 29-year old Thaisa Daher, who won gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games with Brazil, has announced on her Instagram account that she is ready to return to Turkey after some time off in Brazil to treat her injury. Although still nowhere near playing shape, she is under contract with the team, and will continue her rehab with the team’s doctors.
She had surgery June 6th in São Paulo with Brazil’s national team medical staff. It involved cartilage and meniscus transplant in her left knee. Her recovery has been ahead of schedule, as she doesn’t even require crutches anymore to walk, and is already back to strength training:
“I have some good news!! I have started another week of training. I have surprised my physiotherapist with how well I am recovering. He evaluated my injured leg and said it is doing perfect. I have started new exercises on the injured leg, new stimuli! He also praised my hard work on trying to gain upper body muscle mass and keep my non injured leg in check. I am training heavy and getting stronger! Starting the week like this is wonderful! I am coming back, I am coming back!”
Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul is one of the top club teams in the world with 28 Turkish League titles and FIVB Club World Championships in 2015 and 2016. Having Daher undergo the correct treatment and rehab and having her back in full strength will go a long way on keeping its status as such, as she is one of the world’s premier players at her position.
