The top seeds Taylor Crabb/Jake Gibb fell on Sunday morning in the semi-finals of the Seattle Open, losing to 5th-seeded Billy Allen/Stanford Slick. On the other side of the bracket, #3 seeds Trevor Crabb/Sean Rosenthal beat #7 seeded Jeremy Casebeer/John Mayer in a sweep.
Billy Allen/Stafford Slick (5) def. Taylor Crabb/Jake Gibb (1) 2-0 (21-17, 21-17)
Billy Allen and Stafford Slick continued their run of early success on the 2017 AVP Tour, their first full season together as partners, win a win to advance to their second-straight championship match. Overall, the team has finished in the top 5 in all 4 AVP tournaments so far this season, and they’ve only dropped 2 sets (in an early loss to Doherty/Hyden) in Seattle this week.
On Sunday morning, they avenged their 2-0 loss in the Austin final by beating top-seeded Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb 2-0 (they were swept in the Austin final). Sunday’s early victory came after a similar 2-0 win on Saturday over the #2 seeds Theo Brunner/Casey Patterson.
Even a loss in Sunday’s final would lift Allen/Slick to a shared $11,500 payout for the Seattle Open, which would make a combined $35,200 in earnings on the AVP Tour on Sunday. With a win, that number would be $41,700. In the two cases, they will approach, or surpass, the combined $36k+ that they earned in the entire tour last season with still half of the season to go.

Trevor Crabb/Sean Rosenthal will play in their 2nd final of the 2017 AVP tour- they placed second in Austin in mid-May. Like their opponents, Crabb/Rosenthal have been in every final so far this season. and like their opponents they also haven’t won a tournament on this year’s tour.
This will be their second crack at a final this season. Last year, Trevor Crab, then playing with his brother Taylor, played in 3 semi-finals, but was never able to break through for a win.
The 37-year old veteran Rosenthal has 13 career AVP wins, but none since 2014 when he was playing with Phil Dalhausser.
