A kick save, and a beauty!
Towson women’s volleyball junior outside hitter Annie Ertz did what it took in a 3rd-set rally on Friday evening against Princeton, and the country’s biggest sports network took notice.
In a match where every point counted, with Princeton ultimately winning the day 3-2 (27-25, 20-25, 25-21, 18-25, 7-15), but Ertz’s save led to a big Emily Jarome back-row kill and gave the Tigers a crucial 12-7 lead before they ultimately won the set.
Ertz would finish the match with 9 kills and 9 digs.
The play caught the attention of ESPN’s producers, and was named the 5th-best play of Friday on the network’s flagship sports highlight show. The anchors quipped about whether players are allowed to use their feet in volleyball (they can), before confirming that hands still aren’t allowed in soccer (they aren’t).
