San Diego State entered the Mountain West Conference slate with a 1-14 mark and a 10-match losing streak. Though picked to finish 3rd in the preseason conference poll along with Boise State with 75 points, that result seemed to be a tall order for the Aztecs.
After seeing its skid extend to 13 matches with losses to Fresno State (3-0), Air Force (3-0) and Colorado State (3-1), San Diego State awoke with a thrilling 5-set victory against Wyoming on Sept. 29. From there, the Aztecs were able to sweep San Diego, down Boise State in 5 on the road, outlast Utah State in 5 on the road and register a 4-set victory over New Mexico at home.
You could say the Aztecs have officially hit their stride and are in the process of a tough season around for a few reasons. San Diego State’s current 5-match win streak is the longest since the 2012 season, when the program won 12-straight.

In this year’s streak, the Aztecs are outblocking opponents (68.5 to 38) and outhitting opponents (.254 to .189). Deja Harris alone has recorded 39 blocks in the last 5 matches, averaging 1.77 blocks per set to lead San Diego State.

The Aztecs, who are now 6-14 overall on the season, are tied for 5th in Mountain West Conference standings with a 4-3 record along with UNLV.
San Diego State has a no-doubt leader at the helm of the program in 10th-year head coach Deitre Collins-Parker. She is a 2-time national collegiate player of the year, who led Hawaii to 2 national titles. Collins-Parker, who brought her team to play at Hawaii earlier this year, was a 3-time AVCA All-American for the Rainbow Wahine.
