U.S. Collegians Sydney Busa, Lydia DeWeese Go Pro in Finland

Former Elon University volleyball player Sydney Busa and former Wisconsin-Green Bay player Lydia DeWeese have each signed their first professional contracts to play volleyball in Finland. Busa is a 6’1″ (186cm) outside hitter, while DeWeese is a 6’2″ (189cm) middle blocker.

The two will join the club Nurmon Jymy, a team based out of Seinajoki, Finland: population 62,000. The club, which plays in Finland’s top league, finished 7th out of 9 teams last season

Busa as a senior last season led the Colonial Athletic Association in kills and points last season with 518 and 568, respectively, in 121 sets played (4.28 kills/set). A 6-rotation player, last season she became just the 4th player in program history to surpass 1000 digs and 1000 kills in her career.

DeWeese was named the 2017 Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the season after recording an unblemished 4.0 GPA while majoring in Human Biology. As an athlete, she was a three-time First Team All-Horizon selection. As a senior, she recorded 398 kills (3.18/set) and 123 blocks (.98/set) and led her team in attacking percentage at .339.

Both players were academically-successful, in addition to their success on the court, and both players produced huge numbers in college at mid-major programs.
