PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s first weekly volleyball honors of 2018 for the week ending on Aug. 26.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
McKenna Melville * Fr. * OH * UCF
Melville had an extraordinary college debut, averaging 5.50 kills per set with a .358 hitting percentage and two double-doubles at the Sunshine State Classic. The freshman outside hitter recorded double-digit kills in all three matches, ending the weekend hitting .444 with 20 kills against Miami (Fla.), which received votes in the Preseason AVCA Coaches’ Poll. Melville earned a spot on the All-Tournament team and averaged 3.50 digs per set.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Giorgia Civita * So. * Libero * Wichita State
Civita picks up her fourth conference weekly award after helping Wichita State to a 2-0 weekend against a pair of 2017 NCAA tournament teams. The sophomore libero led the conference in the back row with 6.78 digs per set. She bumped a career-high 34 digs in a 3-2 win at James Madison on Friday and recorded 27 more in a 3-1 win at Howard on Sunday. She averaged a .974 reception percentage and contributed to the offense, adding six assists, two kills and a service ace.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Jordan Thompson* R-Jr. * OH * Cincinnati
After redshirting in 2017, Thompson returned to the court with authority, averaging a conference-high 5.62 kills per set, 73 total kills and a .305 hitting percentage through a 2-1 opening weekend slate. She had at least 20 kills in each match, posting a pair of double-doubles. She pummeled 27 kills and added 12 digs and hit .295 in a 3-2 opening-day win over UC Santa Barbara. She followed with a 22-kill performance, hitting .405 in a sweep over Saint Louis. She finished the weekend with 24 kills and 11 digs at Miami (Ohio) and was placed on the Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational All-Tournament team.
Caylee Parker * Fr. * OH * UConn
Parker was the driving force behind the Huskies’ offense during a 2-1 weekend at the WVU Invitational. She collected 41 kills and 22 digs over three matches and earned All-Tournament team honors. She posted a double-double with 23 kills, 12 digs and three blocks to fuel a come-from-behind five-set win over Georgia Southern. She hit .304 in the match and ended the weekend ranked No. 4 in the league with 4.10 kills per set.
Megan Duncan * Jr. * OH/RS * Houston
Duncan was named the UNO Tournament MVP after helping Houston to its first 3-0 opening weekend since 2011. She finished the week ranked third in The American with 4.27 kills per set and 47 total kills. Duncan hit at least .270 in each match, including a 22-kill, .302-hitting percentage performance in a 3-2 win at New Orleans.
CC Clausen * Fr. * Libero * USF
Clausen ended the weekend ranked top five in the conference with 4.29 digs per set. The freshman helped the Bulls to a 3-0 weekend at their home tournament, recording 31 digs in a 3-2 win over 2017 America East champion Stony Brook. She recorded double-digit digs in each match and was named to the All-Tournament squad.
Jac’cara Walker * Jr. * OH * USF
Walker was named the USF Invitational MVP following a double-double performance of 21-kills and 20 digs with a .258 hitting percentage against Stony Brook. She had 16 kills and hit .273 in a 3-2 win against Jacksonville, and finished the weekend averaging 3.07 kills and 2.21 digs per set.
