UCLA beach volleyball coach Stein Metzger took a few minutes to speak with the Pac-12 Networks on Wednesday during his team’s double-header against Loyola Marymount and Cal Poly. The result of the games were a pair of wins (5-0 and 4-1, respectively), which extended UCLA’s winning streak to a record 19-straight games.
During the interview, Metzger, who played for the UCLA indoor team as part of 3 NCAA Championship teams, talked about the evolution of the beach program, how he was brought on, and how the team overcame challenges to build the 3rd-ranked program in the country.
Metzger himself, while having big success in college indoors, is best known as a beach player. He won silver at the 2003 World Championships on the beach with partner Dax Holdren, and represented the U.S. at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
