The UCLA men’s volleyball program has garnered a pair of commitments – one for the class of 2019 and the other for the class of 2020 – from two brothers, Marcus Partain and Miles Partain. Marcus (2019) will join the team for the winter of 2020, while Miles (2020) will join the Bruins for the winter of 2021.
Playing for the same school – Palisades High School – the brothers helped lead the team to a 34-3 record in their most recent season. As both setters/opposites in 2018, they wound up with in an appearance in the Regional Semi-Finals as well.
They also play directly with each other in the sand, and were actually the youngest pair (17 and 15 at the time) to ever make the main draw of an AVP event after they earned three victories in qualifying at the 2017 AVP Hermosa Beach stop. They also earned a runner-up finish at the USA Volleyball Beach HP U19 World Trials. Some video of their play together in beach can be seen below:
Marcus, who was a junior and is now in his senior year of school, also captained the team. Besides his play in the sand, the 6’2″ athlete plays with Storm 18s.
The 6’3″ Miles, who is now a junior after his sophomore year, on the other hand plays indoor club ball for Pac 6.
Specifically for Marcus, he joins a huge class of 2019 already in toe for the Bruins as the fifth commit registered in the VolleyMob Recruiting Database. Also in the recruiting class are OH/RS Merrick McHenry, OH Alex Knight, RS Kyle Vom Steeg and DS/L Cole Power.
UCLA finished the 2018 season as the National Runner-Up, falling just short to LBSU in the title match in five sets. They also went 26-8 in the process and come in at #4 in the Way-Too-Early 2019 VolleyMob Top 20 Power Rankings.
