After days of rumors, the University of Oregon head volleyball coach Jim Moore and assistant volleyball coach Stacy Metro are out with the Ducks’ program, but under what circumstances remains unclear.

The University of Oregon said that Moore is “stepping down,” but local news outlets report that he was forced out of his position.

The release acknowledged reports that the ouster was a result of complaints by members of the team over his coaching

“Coach Moore and the UO have come to realize that his coaching style is mismatched with the standards of the University of Oregon athletic department,” the release said. “He has acknowledged that his coaching style may have been viewed negatively by some student-athletes and, for that, he is sorry.”

Moore and Metro, who are husband-and-wife, have led the Oregon volleyball team for 12 years. In that time, Moore has amassed a 186-98 record, which makes him the winningest coach in Oregon volleyball history. His contract was due to expire on January 31st, 2018.

Moore’s tenure as head volleyball coach ends “effective immediately,” and he will official retire on May 15th, 2017.

Prior to Oregon, he coached at Northern Michigan, Chico State, Texas, Kansas State, and Northern Michigan a second time, with a career record of 598-288. In 1993, he coached Northern Michigan to an NCAA Division II National title.

Metro, who was also the head coach of the beach volleyball program, is no longer coaching, but is still employed by Oregon, according to the release. Matt Ulmer has been named the interim head coach of the beach program, who are 0-2 this season and have their next scheduled games in early April.

Oregon finished 21-10 indoors last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, where they lost 21-10 to Michigan.

A scheduled trip by the indoor team to Australia this spring has been cancelled.
