The University of Philippines Lady Maroons took home their first-ever Premier Volleyball League Collegiate title on September 12th with a 3-2 win over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws by coming back strong in the final set to overcome a six-point deficit.

The Lady Maroons won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18 in a dominating fashion and looked to be in a position to clinch their third straight set after establishing an 8-0 lead. The Lady Tamaraws came back however, winning the third set 25-20.

With the momentum on the Tamaraw’s side they took a 13-7 lead in the final set before the Maroons started fighting back with hopes of a win. The Maroons fought back from then on, eventually putting up the set’s last eight points to not only secure the win, but complete the sweep of the best-of-three finals in order to take home their first-ever PVL Collegiate title.

Isa Molde, a crucial component to the Maroons’ win, was named both the finals and conference MVP as well as the Best Outside Spiker. Aieshalaine Gannaban from the Maroons was named the runner up Best Middle blocker.

The win for the Maroons is their first major championship win ever since winning the UAAP Championship in 1982, 36-years ago.
