USAV Girls 18s Nationals: Medalists

USAV Girls 18s Nationals are done. Below is the complete collection of the results and which teams earned what medal.

OPEN

  • Gold: Top Select 18 Elite Blake, Orlando, Florida
  • Silver: SA Magic 18 Elite, San Antonio, Texas
  • Bronze: TX Tornados 18 Mizuno, Houston, Texas
  • Bronze: TAV 18 Black, Carrollton, Texas

#1 overall seed Circle City lost in the quarterfinals to SA Magic in three sets, 15-12 in the third. SA Magic then went on to defeat TX Tornados in two in the semis. Top Select knocked off San Gabriel Elite in the quarterfinals in three sets, 15-12 in the third. Their semifinal match against TAV went 2, but was just as intense. Top Select then needed to come back from down 0-1 to knock off SA Magic, 25-19 and 18-16 to earn gold.

NATIONAL

  • Gold: Alliance 18 MIZUNO, Nashville, Tennessee
  • Silver: Northern Lights 18-1, Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Bronze: Red Rock 18-1, Redwood City, California
  • Bronze: Metro 18 Travel, Washington D.C.

Sky High, who had stolen the #1 seed from Northern Lights earlier in the tournament, was upset in the quarterfinals by Alliance in 3, 15-13 in the third. Alliance then knocked off Red Rock in the semifinals in a quick 2. Northern Lights, losing the #1 overall seed on day 2, stormed back with wins over the Renovators in less than 45 minutes and Metro in 3 sets. Alliance needed three sets to defeat NL, 15-10 in the third.

USA

  • Gold: Upward Stars 18 Corey, Spartanburg, South Carolina
  • Silver: Bakersfield 18-John, Bakersfield, California
  • Bronze: Elite VBTC 18 Chelsea, Columbus, Ohio
  • Bronze: IL HPSTL 18 Elite, St. Louis, Missouri

Upward Stars, finishing 3rd in pool 3 to start their championships, defeated Webfoot easily in the quarterfinals. The Stars then knocked off Elite VBTC in two sets in the semifinals. Bakersfield easily handled Prime in the quarterfinals. Their match against IL HPSTL in the semifinals went 3, 15-10 in the third. The Stars took the title, winning 15-11 in the third.

AMERICAN

  • Gold: 18-Jason, Huntington, West Virginia
  • Silver: ZIVA 18 National, Wichita Falls, Texas
  • Bronze: Momentous 18-1 Randy, Los Angeles, California
  • Bronze: AVA TX 18 Team Rox, Dickinson, Texas

18-Jason, starting the tournament as the 23rd ranked team out of 64, won their quarterfinal over Epic United in 2 and their semifinal over AVA TX in three, 15-10 in the third. ZIVA won their quarterfinal over Houston Skyline in a long 2 (29-27 in set 2!) and their semifinal in 3 over Momentous, 15-10 in the 3rd. 18-Jason made quick work of ZIVA in the finals, winning 25-18, 25-21.

PATRIOT

  • Gold: FORZA1 North 18 UA, Ontario, California
  • Silver: KJ 18 Baden, Kent, Washington
  • Bronze: Laguna Beach 18MS, Laguna Beach, California
  • Bronze: Brandywine Blackout 18-1, Wilmington, Delaware

FORZA1 North, the #5 overall seed out of 100 teams in the Patriot division, did not drop a set for the entire tournament. They were the only team to earn such a feat in all five divisions.
