Sonja Milanovic’s Ankle Injury to End Philippine Super Liga Sea

An ankle injury has ended the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix season early for CIGNAL import Sonja Milanovic. The injury happened earlier this month late in the 1st set of a loss to Generika-Ayala, in which they were eventually swept.

Milanovic, who played collegiately in the U.S. at Arkansas-Little Rock until 2014, is one of the team’s primary scorers, and American Jeane Horton picked up the scoring load for CIGNAL after her injury.

Milanovic was named to Bosnia & Herzogovina’s preliminary roster for the 2018 Mediterranean Games 3 weeks before her injury. She was on the preliminary selection for last year’s European Championship qualifiers as well, but ultimately didn’t participate in the tournament.

The ankle sprain has been described as “severe,” leaving Milanovic’s availability for this summer in question.

Without Milanovic, Cignal HD lost all 3 of their matches in round 2 of the Philippine Grand Prix, eliminating them from contention for the title.
