Verge-Depre/Heidrich Are 2nd Women’s Duo To Advance To Semis In Gstaad

2017 FIVB WORLD TOUR – GSTAAD MAJOR

In the 18 year history of the Gstaad event, Anouk Verge-Depre and Joana Heidrich become only the second Swiss pair to make it to the semifinals. The only other Swiss duo to make it to the semifinals in Gstaad were Simone Kuhn/Nadine Zumkehr when the pair placed third in 2012.

The Swiss duo took down Kelly Claes/Sara Hughes of the United States 2-0, (21-16, 21-16), then Taiana Lima/Elize Maia of Brazil 2-1, (21-19, 14-21, 18-16).

Other pairs making their way to the final four are Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca of Brazil with a 2-0, (21-16, 21-15) win over fellow countrywomen Fernanda Alves/Barbara Seixas and Kristina May/Taylor Pischke of Canada 2-0, (21-14, 21-13).

Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude of Germany also advanced with victories over Heather Bansley/Brandie Wilkerson of Canada 2-0, (21-16, 21-8) followed by Barbora Hermannova/Marketa Slukova of the Czech Republic 2-0, (21-15, 21-14).

After winning the Porec Major just a week ago, Melissa Humana-Paredes/Sarah Pavan are hungry for gold once again. The pair took down Nadja Glenzke/Julia Grossner of Germany 2-0,(21-13, 21-13) then Agatha Bednarczuk/Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa of Brazil 2-0, (21-17, 21-17) on their way to the semifinals.

  • Antunes/Franca (BRA) vs. Pavan/Humana-Paredes (CAN)
  • Laboureur/Sude (GER) vs. Heidrich/Verge-Depre (SUI)
