2017 FIVB WORLD LEAGUE – GROUP 1

France and Canada meet for the first time in the 2017 FIVB World League with high stakes in the semifinal match. The winner will play for the championship tomorrow with the loser off to the third-place match.

France accumulated more wins than any other nation in the first stage, as they went 8-1 in the first three weeks. They added two more wins over the past three days by taking down the United States and Serbia – both in five sets. They hold the best overall record in the tournament at 10 wins to just one loss.

Canada went 5-4 in the first three weeks, which put them in line for the five-seed. They lost in four-sets to host-Brazil, but earned a spot in the semifinals after they swept Russia. A 6-5 World League to this point and a semifinal appearance represents an increase from 2016 when Canada won Group 2.
