The main draw of the Fort Lauderdale Major is set to begin today with some of the best beach pairings in the world competing at the season’s first 5-star event.

Of these top-notch players are the newly formed pairing of April Ross and Alix Klineman of the United States. The pairing advanced straight into the main draw of the tournament and are set to begin play against Germany’s Margareta Kozuch/Karla Borger. For Klineman, this is the first 5-star event that she will compete in, having just competed with Ross at the 4-star event earlier this year in The Hague where the duo took home the gold.

“I love playing at home,” said Ross.

The Fort Lauderdale Major is one of just two events on the FIVB World Tour that will be played in the United States, giving them limited time to play on such a big platform in front of a home crowd. The second event in the USA will take place in Huntington Beach, California from May 2-6.

“I hope that we’re playing deep into the tournament but I’m excited just to experience the whole tournament and all aspects of it,” said Klineman.
