Volleyball Canada has announced its men’s indoor coaching staff for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League season.
Head coach Stéphane Antiga, who is in his first year in Canada after three years at the helm of Poland’s national team, will be joined by Dan Lewis and Georges Laplante. Antiga was a member of France’s national team from 1998 to 2010 and played professionally in Italy, Spain and Poland before transitioning to coaching.
Lewis was a long-time libero for the Canadian men, helping the team to the bronze medal at the 2001 NORCECA Championship and at the 2015 Pan American Games. He also played professionally in Poland, Slovenia and France. Since retiring from the men’s team after the 2016 season, Lewis has been acting as an assistant at Team Canada’s training center and will take over that program this fall.
Laplante has been the head coach of Volleyball Canada’s Men’s B Team for the last two years and also is in his 19th season as head coach of the University of Montreal program. He was the head coach of the Canadian team at the 2011 World Junior Championships, and previously was assistant coach with the men’s national team from 1992 to 1996.
“Once again this year, we have assembled a staff of outstanding coaches,” said Julien Boucher, Volleyball Canada’s Indoor High Performance Director. “These coaches will be instrumental in carrying on the Team Canada culture of excellence throughout the summer and for years to come.”
World League play for Canada begins June 2, when the team faces Belgium in Serbia.
