This week’s VolleyMob Beach Pair of the Week posted a 6-0 record despite facing off with ranked opponents in four matches. Hawaii’s No. 3 duo of Morgan Martin and Lea Monkhouse dropped just one set on the week, while registering two wins each over No. 3 USC and No. 12 Grand Canyon and Nebraska.
The pair helped Rainbow Wahine go undefeated over the weekend and capture the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Invitational title, providing the match clinching points in 3-2 wins over No. 3 USC and grabbing Best Pair honors. The success was just the latest for the duo, which grabbed its second straight Big West Beach Pairs Team of the Week honor for its efforts.
Martin/Monkhouse have now won eight straight matches and 11 of their last 12 and stand at 14-2 on the season, while Hawaii moved to 13-3 on the year.
Martin, a sophomore from Mission Viejo, California, is not new to awards, earning AVCA All-America honors and Big West Freshman of the Year nods in 2017. She went 20-15 on court 1 for the Rainbow Wahine with partner Mikayla Tucker, with whom she was crowned Big West Pairs Team of the Year.
Monkhouse, a four-year volleyball letterwinner and team MVP at Lorne Park Secondary school in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, won the 18U Canadian National Championship in 2017 with partner Molly McBain.
