VolleyMob National Player Of The Week: Long Beach State’s Josh Tuaniga

This weeks VolleyMob National Player of the Week goes to Long Beach State’s setter Josh Tuaniga after helping lead his squad to their eight straight victory.

In this weeks matches, Long Beach State faced Cal Baptist and #14 USC, winning both to propel their winning streak to eight. Tuaniga was instrumental to their success this week and their overall winning streak. Currently, Tuaniga is leading the nation with 11.62 assists per set.

In the teams first match over Cal Baptist, Tuaniga posted six kills on an impressive .857 hitting percentage with no errors, he also dished out 45 assists, had two service aces, five digs and five blocks for an all-around performance on the night. His team-best 45 assists propelled the team to a .370 overall hitting percentage for the match.

Against #14 USC, Tuaniga led the Beach to a three set sweep with 33 assists, two kills, two service aces, four digs and five blocks for another complete performance. He helped the team to a .524 hitting percentage, while holding USC to a low .096 overall hitting percentage.

The sophomore out of Long Beach, California has made a huge impact for the team in his short career. In his freshman campaign, Tuaniga earned a number of awards including AVCA All-America second-team, All-MPSF second-team and MPSF All-Freshman Team. He finished the season leading the MPSF and third in the nation with 11.18 assists per set, leading the Beaches offense to a .328 hitting percentage. Tuaniga ended the 2016 season with 1,364 total assists.
