VolleyMob Player of the Week: Laura Milos, Oral Roberts

Oral Roberts’ Laura Milos had a milestone weekend, becoming only the third player in Summit League history to register 2,000 career kills en route to Summit League Offensive Player of the Week efforts and VolleyMob National Player of the Week accolades. The senior outside hitter achieved the milestone in style, pounding down 49 kills (7.00 per set), while hitting at a .438 clip in a pair of wins over South Dakota State and North Dakota State.

The Porec, Croatia, native put down 19 kills against SDSU and followed that with a 30-kill effort against NDSU. Milos also racked up six service aces, nine digs and two blocks in the Sunday victory, which moved the Golden Eagles to an undefeated 4-0 league mark. For her efforts, Milos earned Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honors, marking her record 14th conference accolades.

 

Honorable Mention

Katie Staiger – RS Sr., OH, Baylor 

Led the conference for the third-straight week averaging 5.36 kills/set and 5.71 points/set;  matched a season-high 26 kills vs. Oklahoma on Saturday and led all players at Texas with 12 kills; Added one service ace and added four block assists to help BU start 3-1 in Big 12 action for the second-straight year

 

Darien Bandel – Sr., OH, Oakland 

Averaged 6.29 kills per set and hit .376 against Wright State and Northern Kentucky last weekend, while also averaging 4.29 digs per set; tied a career-high 27 kills hitting .407 to go with 14 digs and two blocks in a 3-1 win over the Norse; also registered 18 kills, 16 digs and two blocks in a sweep of Wright State

 

Emily Lopes – Sr., Lib., Cal State Bakersfield 

7.50 digs per set, 1.0 assists per set; helped the Roadrunners to a pair of WAC victories this week as CSU Bakersfield accomplished its first 4-0 start since joining the league in 2013;  recorded over eight digs per set and added three assists in a three-set sweep over Seattle U; notched 35 digs on Saturday against Utah Valley while adding another five assists. Lopes’ 25 digs on Thursday was second-most in CSUB history for a three-set match and 35 digs on Saturday was second best in five-set match

 

Lydia Dimke – Sr., S, Creighton 

averaged 12.33 assists, 2.00 kills, 1.83 digs and 1.33 blocks per set while hitting .579 in consecutive road sweeps; tallied 37 assists, six digs, five kills, two blocks and hit .571 as Creighton swept Seton Hall on Friday;  followed that up with 37 assists, seven kills, six blocks and five digs on .583 hitting. Her six blocks tied a career-best while her seven kills equaled a season-high. For the weekend, Dimke had 12 kills in 19 swings against just one error and set her team to .362 hitting overall.

 

Rachel Minarick – Sr., S, Michigan State 

11.3 assists, 2.5 digs per set; set the Spartans to a second consecutive 2-0 weekend with a pair of .300+ hitting performances; notched 30 assists, three aces, and eight digs in Friday’s victory over Maryland, then posted 38 assists, two aces, seven digs, and a pair of kills while helping MSU to a .396 hitting performance against Ohio State; pushed her career assist total to 3,790, moving her into third place all-time in the MSU annals in that category.
