VolleyMob’s National Beach Pair Of The Week: LBSU’s Nieto & Barber

After leading Long Beach State to five victories last week, Rachel Nieto and Nele Barber earn this weeks VolleyMob Beach Pair of the Week honors.

The top pair is now 19-1 on the season with their only loss coming to UCLA last Monday.

In the teams’s first match of the week, Nieto won her 50th collegiate match with a 2-1, (18-21, 21-10, 15-9) victory over CSU Bakersfield. Despite dropping the first set, the pair recovered comfortably for an easy final two sets.

Against the then-#5 Rainbow Wahine at the Big West Challenge, Barber and Nieto were the deciding game of the match. The pair jumped out to a 21-18 victory, while clinching the win with a tough second set 22-20. The second match at the challenge was an easy two setter over Sacramento State 2-0, (21-11, 21-13).

On the second day of the Big West Challenge, Nieto and Barber helped Long Beach State to a pair of victories over Cal Poly 2-0, (21-19, 21-13) and CSUN 2-0, (21-16, 22-20).

With the wins over the past week, the pair broke two school records in the top position: most career wins at the 1-line and single-season wins at the 1-line.
