Hawai‘i dominated the 2018 women’s beach volleyball awards after claiming its third-straight Big West Tournament title at Queen’s Beach in Honolulu. The SandBows garnered all three of the top awards: senior Ka’iwi Schucht and junior Emily Maglio earned Pairs Team of the Year honors, Lea Monkhouse garnered Freshman of the Year accolades and Jeff Hall was tabbed Coach of the Year as the conference announced the all-conference teams today.
The No. 3 University of Hawai’i women’s beach volleyball team captured its third straight Big West Tournament with a pair of wins over Long Beach State Saturday at Queen’s Beach.
No. 5 USC wrapped up its home and regular season slates with a pair of Top 20 victories over No. 6 Long Beach State and No. 16 Grand Canyon on Tuesday. Meanwhile, No. 13 Cal edged No. 20 Saint Mary’s.
No. 13 California was a part of both of the Top 20 upsets in Sunday’s beach action. The Bears first edged out No. 4 USC 3-2, before falling to No. 14 Stanford by the same score later in the day at the Pac-12 North Invitational. The Cardinal wrapped up the day with a 5-0 win over Washington.
April was full of international club championships, hirings in the collegiate and international ranks and streaks in the men’s and beach games leading up to conference championships on both sides. Both USC beach and the team’s No. 1 pair Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes kept streaks rolling until late in the season en route to Pac-12 titles.
