The United States Collegiate National Team won the European Global Challenge title, downing the Mountain West All-Star team in a sweep on Friday to wrap the tournament with an undefeated 6-0 mark. The CNT won 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 behind an 18-point effort by the University of Washington’s Courtney Schwan. Schwan, the tournament MVP, managed four aces and 14 kills.
The CNT dominated all phases of the match, outdoing the Mountain West 10-2 in blocks, 8-3 in aces and 38 to 19 in kills. The USA recorded a 49 percent kill efficiency while limiting its foes to a 23 percent effort and .012 hitting percentage.
By the midway point of each set, the Americans boasted leads of 10 (16-6), four (16-12) and eight (16-8) before cruising to victory.
Lipscomb’s Carlyle Nusbaum added nine points, including six kills, two blocks and an ace for the CNT.
San Jose State’s Nandyala Gama led the Mountain West with seven points, including a team-best five kills. Boise State’s Janell Walley added six points, with five kills and an ace.
