On Saturday evening in Ft. Lauderdale, the newly-former Brazilian pair of Saymon Barbosa and Magliano Alvaro showed their mettle by picking up a major title over countrymates Evandro/Loyola in a 2-0 sweep.
As reported by Jared Anderson:
Barbosa/Alvaro never trailed, building big leads in both sets and hanging on for gold. A 21-15 first set saw the teams go back and forth over the first 20 points, with an Evandro kill finally pushing things to a 9-7 lead, the biggest lead at that point in the match. But from there, the top Brazilian crew started to press its advantage, eventually hitting 15-10 and coasting from there.
The second set was a quicker start for Barbosa/Alvaro. They went up 7-2 on with a big early run, and eventually pushed to 12-6. Evandro/Loyola fought back and cut things to 17-20, but by then, the damage was done.
